Lasts

Starting with a raw last made of white beech, the measuring last is formed to fit the customer’s foot by adding and detracting material.

The added material is sole leather softened in water and then pasted onto the wood. In this way the sole leather can be worked on with cutting tools. These leathery layers are finally hardened with shellac and burnished with floor wax.

When the last is finished then the respective upper-cutting patterns can be developed by the pattern maker.
